Commissionerate of Backward Classes Welfare :
The Commission of Backward Classes Welfare has objective to provide better opportunities for all those citizens of Backward Classes. The Commissionerate provides educational facilities to members of Backward classes, intending to eradicate poverty, and eliminate inequalities that prevent the Backward Classes form realizing their full potential. This will give those students the better opportunity and bright scope for their future. You are requested to read below for more assistance:
The main objectives are as follows :
1. To provide access to education for citizens belonging to Backward Classes
2. To provide quality education to meritorious Backward Class Students pursuing studies at the pre metriculation level
3. To promote higher education and impart quality education on par with students of the General category
4. To reimburse tuition fees for students of Backward Classes
5. To provide coaching facilities to eligible Backward Classes students
6. To provide boarding and lodging facilities to children of Backward Classes
Post matriculation Scholarships :
In order to promote higher education and impart quality education on par with general students, this department awards residential & non residential Post matriculation Scholarships to students belonging to Backward Classes at all levels of post matriculation Courses in Cases where the parents’ annual income does not exceed Rs.1,00,000/- per annum.
Vide G.O.Ms.No.18 Govt. have issued certain guidelines for sanction of Post Matric Scholarships and Reimbursement of Tuition Fee. In the G.O. Govt. have agreed for sanction of Post Matric Scholarships and Reimbursement of Tuition Fee and Special Fees to the eligible category “A” (convenor quota) BC students on saturation basis on par with Social Welfare Department from the year 2008-09.
Further with a view to ensure transparent and speedy delivery of Post Matric Scholarships to SC, ST, BC and Disabled students, the Government has decided to go in for online sanction and disbursement of Post Matric Scholarships from the year 2008-09 under Social Benefits Management System (SBMS).
a. Students belonging to Andhra Pradesh.
b. Students studying regular post matriculation courses recognized by the Education Department / Education Board / universities.
c. Scholarships shall be sanctioned at one level of General Course and one level of Professional Course only except Engineering, MBA & MCA.
d. Income Certificate & Caste Certificate issued by the MRO should be produced.
e. The distance between the residence of the applicant and the college should be more than 5 kms.
How to Apply :
The eligible students have to apply online through the official website sbms.ap.gov.in.
In addition to the existing lone website, one more new website viz., sbms2.ap.gov.in has been created.
Where to Apply :
The eligible students may apply from their respective colleges, if proper facilities like computer, Internet connectivity, printer etc. are available. Otherwise, they can apply from nearby e-Seva center/ Jawahar Knowledge Center (JKC)/ Mandal Resource Center located in MPDO’s Office or any Internet kiosk.
Mode of Payment :
The amounts relating to post matric scholarships will be credited directly into the accounts of the students month wise.
The amounts relating to fee reimbursement will be credited directly into the accounts of the colleges in two installments in a year.
