How to apply for a Immigrant Visa:
The visa appointment system is designed for those eligible applicants who have received notification regarding the schedule of an appointment.
Applying Process :
The application process will be Starting January 1, 2014, the eligible immigrant visa applicants are required to complete the following steps according to attending consular interview appointments.

Step 1 :
First you need to obtain your Police Clearance Certificate(PCC) from the Regional Passport Office (The validity of the POLICE CLEARANCE CERTIFICATE is 01 year from the date of issue. You need to bring the new Police Clearance Certificate if the one you have submitted has already expired.) Kindly note that if you have residing in any foreign country for more than 1 year then after reaching the age of 16 years, you are also required to submit the PCC from that country.
If you are not having an Indian police clearance certificate, then in that case you will not be allowed to enter into U.S. Embassy New Delhi or U.S. You need to Consulate Mumbai on your interview date. If you do not have your police clearance certificate at the required time, then you will need to reschedule your appointment for a later date.
Step 2 :
All need to do is to complete your medical examination with an approved panel physician from the list available for Mumbai Immigrant applicants at : http://mumbai.usconsulate.
Step 3 :
You are required to follow the given instructions below to complete the DS-260 form online at https://ceac.state.gov/ceac
If you dont have an appointment letter, then your Invoice ID and Beneficiary ID Numbers can also be found on the basis of Immigrant Visa Application Processing Fee Bill Invoice, you or your petitioner received prior to paying your IV fees through the National Visa Center. If your petitioner no longer has the Fee Bill Invoice, they must obtain the invoice ID number from NVC.
Please make sure to read and follow the guidelines and instructions for completing the DS 260 form carefully. All information provided by you is must be correct and accurate. Print the DS-260 form confirmation page.

Now go to www.ustraveldocs.com/in and follow the instruction to login your account. After login click the option of “Schedule Appointment” option on the left side of the menu.This will help you to start the process for scheduling your appointment and follow the instructions and guidelines according to the below category to determine your appointment requirements
Step 5 :
You are almost ready to schedule your visa appointment! Make sure you have your Indian police clearance certificate before you log on to schedule your interview.
Category 1 : Visa Application Center(VAC) Appointment
The National Visa Center (NVC) or Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) scheduled your visa interview appointment for an upcoming date.
Category 2 : Consulate / Embassy Appointment
1. It has been more than one year that since you first came to the Embassy/Consulate for an immigrant visa interview.
2. If you wish to make an application for Returning Resident status.
3. If you have lost your green Card and again you wish to apply for a Boarding Foil (formally a transportation letter) to return to the United States.
4. If you are intrested to surrender your green card or abandon your lawful permanent residence.
5. Your waiver has been approved.
Category 3 :
Visa Application Center AND Embassy/Consulate Appointments
You missed your consulate/ embassy appointment.
You were informed by the consulate / embassy that your case is now ready for an interview.
Step 6 :
You are requested to complete your profile and also choose the pickup location where you would like to receive your passport.
Step 7 :
For your Visa Application Centre appointment, you will need to bring :
1. A passport is valid for travel to the United States with validity dates at least 6 months beyond your intended period of stay in the United States (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions). If more than 1 person is included in your passport, each person desiring a valid visa and they must submit an application.
2. Your DS-260 confirmation page.
3. Your appointment confirmation page.
4. One recent passport size photograph as per U.S. visa specifications if the applicant is under 14 years of age See the Photos and Fingerprints page for more details.
Step 8 :
There is following your visit to the Visa Application Centre to have your photo and fingerprints taken, you will then visit the U.S. Embassy or Consulate on the date and time of your visa interview.
You will need to bring :
a. Your DS-260 confirmation page must stamped at the Visa Application Centre
b. You are required to bring your current and all old passports,
c. Your Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)from the Regional Passport Office
d. Your medical examination report from a approved Physician
e. Supporting importnt Documents according to your visa type
Kindly Note :
All applicants are informed that without having both the medical report AND police clearance certificate they will not be allowed entry into U.S. Embassy New Delhi or U.S. Consulate Mumbai. If you dont hold your Indian police clearance certificate (PCC) at the required time, then in that case you need to reschedule your appointment for a later date. If there is any issue with your medical report, then the Panel Physician will provide you a separate instructions.
How Check Immigrant Visa Petition Status :
If you need to check the status of your immigrant petition, visit the USCIS official website. You need to enter your application receipt number, which is a 13-digit receipt number starting with EAC, WAC, LIN or SRC, followed by numbers.
